With the extension of the EAN/Barcode support, it is possible to configure articles in the GASTROFIX cloud in such a way that EAN/Barcodes (in the standard GTIN-13) generated by third party systems can be scanned via the GASTROFIX app. As an example, the creation of a press article in the GTIN-13 standard is shown.
A Socket Mobile Scanner of the CHS 7Qi or CHS 7Ci model is required to scan the press codes. Using the iPad camera may in some cases cause misinterpretation of the EAN/Barcode and is therefore not recommended.
Configuration and Settings
Setting up Socket mobile® Handheld Scanners (CHS 7Ci/7Qi)
In the first step, the Socket mobile® handheld scanner must be reset. This is done by scanning an EAN code after you have switched on the hand scanner. When resetting, make sure that the handheld scanner is not connected to any device via Bluetooth.
Factory Reset Code
After successful reading of the code, various signal tones from the handheld scanner follow.
In the last step, the iOS mode of the handheld scanner must be activated so that the GASTROFIX iOS app can communicate with the Socket mobile® scanner. On the other hand, the bluethooth of the Socket mobile® scanner can be activated in order to connect the device to the iPad.
To do this, the following code must be scanned with the Socket mobile® scanner.
Application Mode for iOS
After successfully reading the code, 3 different signal tones from the handheld scanner follow.
Now you can search for your Socket Mobile® scanner (example: Socket 7xx) in the iPad Settings -> Bluetooth, activate the Bluetooth mode and connect to it.

Configuration of press article in the Cloud
Press articles have a predefined standard GTIN-13 EAN code consisting of the following parts:
Name | Value |
Prefix Germany | 41 |
Tax-Rates. | 9 (7%) or 4 (19%) |
Object-Nr. (VDZ) | XXXXX (5-Numerals) |
Price | XXXX (4-Numerals) |
Check Value | X (1-Numerals) |
Example Code (Tax-Rate 7%):
41 9 62905 0700 1
For creating a press article in the cloud, the object number (VDZ) is required from this GTIN-13 EAN code. This can be applied for by the VDZ or taken directly from the press article.
The basic prerequisite for using the EAN functionality in the cloud is the activation of the feature: EAN/Barcode support under "Setup" --> "Setup" --> "Features". By activating this option, several EAN codes can now be stored in the article.
When you create an article, the following four entries must be made in the article:
- Article Group: Must be subject to VAT. Display the sentence of the press article, for example: Article group Magazines with 7% VAT
- The type of article must be defined as a "Open Price" for press articles.
- The price for this article is 0 because the price is automatically taken from the EAN code of the journal.
- Enter the object number (VDZ) in the EAN code field
After saving the article and loading the master data in the GASTROFIX iOS app, you can now book press articles with the Socket Mobile® Scanner.
